Flórez and Beethoven
vilaine fille will be posting a rockin' new sound file later today, featuring one Zara Alexandrova Doloukhanova. For now, though, she encourages you to make note of WHRB's Gabriel Fauré Orgy®, which starts on Tuesday, 11 January at 08h00 EST.
One of vilaine fille's alter egos, Marion Lignana Rosenberg, has two pieces kicking around the æther: for Newsday, Beethoven's quartets, the radical and revered; and for the Sunday New York Times, He can sing an aria or frank a letter, about tenor Juan Diego Flórez. This is the seventh eighth (!) time—est-ce possible ?—mlr has had the privilege of writing about Mr. Flórez for paper publications. Please visit mondo-marion and the Opera News archives for other articles.
vilaine fille enjoyed yesterday's Met broadcast of Verdi's Otello. It was a little rough around the edges, without the polish and utter vocal security the principals displayed on opening night, but still a winner. Barbara Frittoli is a special favorite chez nous; compare her with Tiziano's Venus:

The goddess of love depicted by one of history's great connoisseurs of womanly pulchritude, and Mme Frittoli bests her. Wow. vilaine fille suspects that Mme Frittoli's upcoming Met Fiordiligi may be happening, oh, some half-dozen years too late for the ideal vocal outcome, but it should still be a feast for the eyes—especially opposite the Dorabella of Magdalena Kozená.
Hmm. Maybe it's time for some girl-on-girl action? Nah. Ass-f*cking vexes Republicans more.

I think I'd have to see Mme Frittoli 'au naturel' to make a true comparison.
