Book meme

As a rule, I don't do memes, but I can deny nothing to darling Finocchio. I also do not post pictures of the cat of whom I am the biped because it seems presumptuous (v. Montaigne)—though, I suppose, seeing superior life forms might possibly chasten wretched human beings. Anyway, the meme:

1. You're stuck inside Fahrenheit 451. Which book do you want to be?
   I thought about choosing Orlando furioso, which subsumes most everything that preceded and followed it. But since burning the Torah has been a favorite sport of vermin throughout the ages, I would opt for the Tanakh.
2. Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character?
   You mean like my crush on Daniel Auteuil—i.e. I would stalk him if my schedule allowed? No. But I swoon and tremble and weep for Tasso's Tancredi and Clorinda and find them both breathtakingly sexy.
3. The last book you bought is:
   Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World by Jack Weatherford
4. The last book you read is:
   The Many Lives of Marilyn Monroe by Sarah Churchwell

   I'm going to cheat and take six. I would also hide miniature editons of Tasso and Dante in my trousse Chanel. (By "deserted island," I'm assuming you mean more or less this.)
