"Lost Signals and Drifting Satellites" is the title of a work by composer Annie Gosfield for violin and recordings of satellite transmissions. It had its U.S. premiere at The Stone last Friday, with Jennifer Choi as violin soloist. Read all about it in the Newsday review by vilaine fille alter ego Marion Lignana Rosenberg.
Note that Annie's music will be featured on tonight's edition of WNYC's "New Sounds." (Note, too, that the legal nincompoops made WNYC take down the "New Sounds" archives. Fie on't, ah fie!) You can hear a sample of "Lost Signals" and purchase the Tzadik CD on which it is featured right here.
As for Jennifer, her upcoming schedule can be found here: New York concerts at The Kitchen (25 June), Joe's Pub (later on 25 June), the Bowery Poetry Club (28 June), and then a residence at the Marrowstone Music Festival in Washington State.
Speaking of matters astronomical, the summer solstice came and went in these parts. We're that much closer to winter. Hooray!
