If you like the Abbado Bocccanegra, you might look for a live 1972 recording of Aida: Abbado at La Scala with Domingo (his premiere at that house), Arroyo, Ghiaurov, Capucilli, and Cossoto who steals the entire show. Arroyo is also very good. I always thought she was underrated and undervalued. Her bad luck to be singing at the same time as that other great Spanish soprano. This version was actually recorded twice -- in Milan and Munich. The Munich recording is better. The audience is much quieter (duh, La Scala) but just as enthusiastic at the appropriate moments.
