No, of course I didn’t watch the Super Bowl. Communists don’t watch the Super Bowl, silly! And I follow only real football. But as in 1996, the shrieks and whoops from outside my window told me everything I needed to know. (Actually, right now, I can hear a bagpipe—some hapless B*st*nian, perhaps, in mourning?)
Wipe that smug grin off your pasty faces, New Englanders. I have news for you, and for Usama, and for Gerald Ford: New York rules. (Well, the Giants are from Jersey, but whatever.)
We rule food. We were the first capital of the United States, and now we’re the capital of the world.* We own you.
Oh, and you ruddy-hosed fiends: You’ll get yours, too! Fie, damnation, and a pox upon you!
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I must go find a pointèd stick so I can chase that infernal bagpiper out of town.
P.S. All of that said, if the d*mn ticker-tape parade suppresses voter turnout on Tuesday, I may turn the pointèd stick on our local officials.
*Come to think of it, Sinatra, too, was from Jersey, as am I. Oh, dear…
Well, only one thing left to do next time you're around then. Come and check it out ; the history and the architecture are quite unique, and the city is full of touching local traditions ; a city whose soul overwhelms you (at least me). Count me in if ever you want a guide.

Well, if you know a little bit about France, you then aknowledge we call Marseille the first city of the Maghreb.
If I would dare a comparison, I would say it's like New Orleans.
The magnificent place nobody cares about but that really defines what this country is all about...

P.S. In case it wasn't clear: Of late, Boston has kind of owned NYC sports-wise. So this was just a turning-the-tables vent, and a bit of a joke. TTFN, v.f.

Dear bagel boy: I will be in the Boston area next month and will do my best to try Kupel's. Auguri, v.f.
Dear Extatic: I know some Lyonnais, and they are way cooler than Bostonians. P.S. If Lyon is the equivalent of Boston, then what is Marseille? Zibous, v.f.
Dear sogalitno: I liked your message so much, I stole it! xxo, v.f.

[I couldn't possibly be on your side though, considering I live in the French equivalent of Boston. Sorry]

Aw, Mayor Menino is from Roslindale -- he probably thinks jelly donuts are exotic food!
I agree with everything else you have on your wonderful site here...but Murray's is a newcomer to the bagel business, and I would gladly put a Kupel's "everything" up against Murrays.
Now...off to vote.

Oy vey, what a way to keep voters away!
Luckily up here in the wilds of Westchester we won't have to fight off hordes - or hopefully we will...

Chère Extatic,
Bienvenue !
Well, as long as movie directors keep smashing New York to smithereens, and Bostonians keep sneering, I will stand up for NYC. (In reality, I don't care a fig for American football.)

Very refreshing post.
Chauvinism is indeed a universal feeling!

I would put Murray's up against Ducasse, really I would!
Hey, if Kupel's is so great, why didn't Mayor Menino wager them instead of (blech) Boston Cream Pie?
:-)))

Huh -- you want to put Murray's Bagels (est. 1996) up against Kupel's Bagels in Brookline, MA?
Really?
